Week 2 Frigid Temps and Cozy Shelters!

We shivered happily through week 2 of Elements - Shelter Week! We learned where and how to build shelters to protect ourselves from the harsh Elements, and honored MLK Jr. by helping clean up each of our park sites. The daylight is lasting longer and Elements is FULL STEAM AHEAD!

Element's Strongest Man

This week our Kindness of the Week was to remove litter we found in our parks.  We strive to protect these places for future generations in honor of MLK Jr.

WORMS! In this cold?

Hangin out in an exceptionally well-insulated shelter.

Time for a quick game of ball

Frozen in time.. and ice

Hard at work building shelters at Flurries!

Each week we'll receive 7 minutes more of daylight at Elements.

Be sure to "like" us on Facebook to catch more photos from each week!

Elements is off to a terrific start and we couldn't have asked for a better group of young adventurers! We sure had our share of mud, puddles, wind, clouds and rain but that's what Elements is all about! See us laughing, orienteering and traipsing around the winter terrain with our new pals in photos from Week 1!
And about those flurries - the winter storm passed us by last Thursday but we still had our Flurries outside.  Be sure to check out the Flurries photos (courtesy of the National Park Trust's Billy Schacht) on The Elements DC face book page.  We are still hoping to get more Flurries (3 1/2-5 year olds) out in the woods so if you know of a family that may be interested - the 5 week sessions running Mondays - Thursdays start on  January 28th.  Please register (www.theelementsdc.com) by Friday, January 25th.
